Supporting rather than replacing

The two most recent expansion projects do not create CDC estates. They support growers farming their own land.

  • 20,000hectares planned with smallholders
  • 42,027hectares farmed directly
  • 2smallholder projects
  • 3nurseries on site

What the corporation carries

01

The nurseries

Donga Mantung has an oil palm nursery, Manyu has two, one per crop. It is the least visible part of these projects and the most decisive: planting material determines what a plot becomes over twenty years.

02

Opening new areas

The projects extend production beyond the corporation's historic footprint. Donga Mantung is the first outside the Littoral and South West.

03

Housing the workforce

At Matouke, more than 312 rooms were built, with generator electricity and drinking water from a solar-powered borehole. A new plantation is also a settlement that has to be built.

04

Oil sold at home

All of the palm oil is sold locally, in one-litre bottles and five- and twenty-litre jugs, and in bulk to Cameroonian industry.

Banana Accompanying Measures

The banana operation draws on the European Union's Banana Accompanying Measures, a scheme set up to help traditional supplier countries adjust as EU import tariffs fell.
